All about the role:
We have an exciting opportunity for a skilled and independent Sr. Product Development Engineer to join our team!
As Sr. Product Development Engineer, you will be responsible for door development projects within the Food Preservation Organization. Lead design for refrigeration and freezer Architectures across global business areas (NA-EU-AP-LA). The Sr. Product Development Engineer will ensure that developments are aligned with the strategic focus of creating a “Best-in-Class consumer experience” in the areas of “Taste, Care & Wellbeing Innovation”, “Quality and Ownership Experience”, and “Star Products with Preferred Partners.”
What you’ll do:
Design door systems for single door, and multi door refrigerators and freezers.
Provide engineering cost estimates for parts and tooling during project scoping and feasibility.
Leverage modular design principles to develop best practices that can be implemented across platforms to reduce complexity.
Collaborate with manufacturing to create cohesiveness between R&D design and assembly methods, including the exploration of automated assembly.
Partner with Design to turn abstract concepts into tangible products.
Lead design reviews to ensure product reliability and safety testing rigors are incorporated into our products, improving customer satisfaction.
Support Product Care with quality improvement and cost reduction opportunities.
Expand the use of FEA simulation testing to support concept validation prior to prototype creation.
Network outside of R&D; including product line, design, manufacturing, suppliers, organizations, and academia to inspire innovation.
Qualifications and skills required:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related technical degree with a minimum of 5 years related product development experience is required.
Product development, manufacturing and consumer innovation experience in a high-volume consumer products environment is preferred.
Strong 3D modeling experience with injection molding, thermoforming, extrusions, sheet metal, metal stamping, gasket sealing, and foaming required.
Availability to travel is required, including travel to our facilities in Europe, North America, Asia Pacific, and Latin America.
Advanced design experience using Catia V5.
Proficient with tools associated with product development activities; Stage-gate development processes, design reviews, DFMEA, and DFA.
Ability to lead, influence, and communicate with people in a cross-functional team, as well as customers and external suppliers.
Strong analytical and organizational skills with an ability to handle multiple projects across sectors and meet deadlines.
Excellent written and oral communication skills including presentation experience to large and diverse audiences.
Desire to work in a global and multicultural environment
Understanding of supplier capabilities, including tooling design and manufacturing processes and limitations
